Following Him by Loving Him

I was born and raised in a small town in Ohio. I was blessed with a wonderful family with caring, responsible parents. By the time I graduated high school and was ready for college, I had attained to a certain level of success and happiness in life. I received the Eagle Scout Award, I had maintained straight A's all through school, and I was accepted into the Mechanical Engineering program at Ohio State University.

During my time at college I met some Christians through a friend of mine in class. I later found out that they followed the Bible in a very determined way under the help of the ministry of Witness Lee and many others who had gone before him. Through my time meeting with these believers I was brought to know the Lord, to be baptized, and to learn to love the Lord and have a relationship with Him. I found that real joy didn't come from attainments in life but in knowing the Lord.

When the time was arriving for me to graduate I had a desire to take some time to play trumpet on a cruise ship. I had been playing all my life and thought that this would be a great way to use it to travel. Although I wanted to do this I had a sense that the Lord didn't want me to go. I didn't know what to do. I felt like I would become bitter at the Lord for not letting me do the things I wanted to do. After some conversations with my Christian companions, I was helped to just tell the Lord how I felt. I began to just be honest with the Lord. Over a period of two months or so the Lord was able to really work in my heart and eventually changed my desire to go. He had won me over in such a sweet way. It didn't feel like a sacrifice not to go, but, rather, a joy to follow the Lord.

Since then I've had many experiences of the Lord and I can honestly say that today I love the Lord more than I ever have. There is no bitterness of feeling or demand to please Him. I am able to just love Him, fellowship sincerely with Him, and by His mercy, am able to follow Him.
